How to Make Kombucha

Kombucha tea is another fix and forget item on our farm. It takes a few minutes to prepare. The culture will ferment for seven to ten days before it is ready to be consumed.

You will need:

A dutch oven-4 qt.
eight green tea bags
3/4 cup white sugar (the culture comsumes the sugar, you do not)
1/4 cup apple cider vinegar (white vinegar maybe used)
A gallon glass jar
Paper towel
rubber band

Bring 4 quarts of water to boil. Add white sugar, stirring until dissolved. Add vinegar and tea bags. Steep for 10-15 minutes. Allow tea mixture to cool until room temperature before adding culture. Pour mixture into a gallon glass jar. Add culture, place paper towel over the top of the gallon glass jar and secure with a rubber band. Place in a dark undisturbed place for seven to ten days.

After fermentation is complete two cultures will appear in the mixture. You may need to pull gently to separate the mother from the daughter culture. Filter Kombucha to remove particles. Refrigerate and enjoy!
